Advanced Treatment for Wrinkles
At Dermatology Clinics Australia, we offer a wide range of non-invasive treatments designed to target both fine lines and wrinkles. Our treatment approach ensures that we address individual concerns and develop a treatment plan tailored to meet the unique needs of each patient. Our treatment plan for wrinkles includes the use of advanced laser and light treatments, energy-based devices, relaxing the muscles, stimulating collagen production, volume restoration and skin care.
Treatments for dynamic wrinkles typically aim to relax the underlying muscles responsible for causing the wrinkles. Relaxing the muscles will minimise the movement which can reduce and soften the appearance of the wrinkles and can sometimes diminish finer, shallower lines. The use of treatment modalities such as fractional lasers, radiofrequency, laser and light-based therapies and collagen stimulating treatments target different layers of the skin to encourage the formation of new collagen and elastin. Here at Dermatology Clinics Australia, we utilise collaborative treatment approach to deliver the best possible results. By combining various treatments, we can address multiple skin concerns simultaneously, improving both skin texture and firmness while reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles for more youthful and rejuvenated skin.
Types of Wrinkles
Wrinkles are lines, folds, or creases that form on the surface of the skin as part of the natural ageing process. As we age, the skin’s natural ability to produce collagen and elastin decreases, causing it to lose its firmness and elasticity. This results in the skin becoming thinner and wrinkles start to develop and become more noticeable. While wrinkles primarily develop due to collagen breakdown, repetitive muscle movements can exacerbate wrinkles. Other factors that contribute to fine lines and wrinkle formation include sun exposure, smoking, dehydration, and genetic predisposition.
While wrinkles can appear in most parts of the body, they are commonly seen in exposed areas such as face, neck, decolletage’ and hands. Patients are typically concerned with wrinkles on their face and neck. These wrinkles can be categorised into two main classifications – static and dynamic wrinkles.
Static lines and wrinkles are permanent lines that are noticeable even when the face is at rest. These wrinkles are caused by ageing, repetitive facial movements, and a reduction of collagen and elastin. As the skin loses its elasticity over time, permanent lines, creases and folds start to form. Static lines and wrinkles commonly appear on forehead (horizontal lines), in between the eyebrows (vertical lines), the outer corner of the eyes (crow’s feet), cheeks, around the mouth and neck area. Static wrinkles often overlap with dynamic wrinkles.
Dynamic wrinkles or expression lines form due to repetitive facial muscle movements or facial expressions such as frowning, smiling or squinting. Dynamic wrinkles are commonly seen around the eyes, vertical frown lines in between the eyebrows, and horizontal lines on the forehead. These wrinkles start as fine and shallow but can become more pronounced and visibly deeper over time with constant facial movement.
