Rural dermatology patients can receive specialist management within days using telemedicine, delegates at the annual dermatology conference have heard.
SkinByDerms, a private bulk-billing dermatology service, and teledermatology at Brisbane’s Princess Alexandra Hospital both provide rapid access for non-metropolitan patients to specialist advice and follow-up.
Dr Shobhan Manoharan, consultant dermatologist at Princess Alexandra Hospital and SkinByDerms, said between 80 and 120 GPs used the SkinByDerms service at any one time.
After receiving uploaded cases via their website, the service arranges a video conference between the GP, patient and specialist within 2-7 days. Urgent cases can be reviewed within 48 hours.
